2011/2012 School Year - Application Procedure (draft)
Hello, and thank you for your interest in TEAM! If you have any questions with the information below, please feel free to contact Dave Mody (david.mody@chee.queensu.ca).
TEAM operates with real industrial projects. Due to the strong demand, the maximum course enrollment has been capped. For students outside of Applied Science, we HIGHLY recommend that you sign up for an alternate course, in the event that you are not accepted to TEAM. You can check the current project list (or lists of projects that have been completed in the past) any time ( link ). Note it is normal for the list to seem incomplete during the summer. If you know of a possible project/client, please email Dave Mody with contact information and we will follow up.
All students are expected to provide a resume and cover letter. The cover letter should explain why you want to participate in the TEAM course, and why you think you are a good candidate (i.e how you will contribute in a multidisciplinary team). Experience is an asset, but a willingness to go the extra mile (or two) is crucial. TEAM is effort intensive. You should read the Project Management for Dummies (below) prior to writing the letter.
All students are expected to pick up a copy and read this summer, the course text (Project Management for Dummies, 3rd ed..) (amazon.chttp://www.amazon.ca/Project-Management-Dummies-Stanley-Portny/dp/0470574526/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277751288&sr=1-1a link). It's a quick read, but essential preparation for TEAM . The author will be coming to Queen's for a special presentation (and to sign your book). There are a few other suggested readings that listed on the Queen's Campus Bookstore list.
EVERYONE: Please go to the following website and fill in the survey (if you haven't already) about project interests (link).
REGISTERING in APSC 400 (Applied Science Students)
Step #1 Add APSC 400 in QCARD, and send a resume and cover letter to David Mody (david.mody@chee.queensu.ca).
REGISTERING in APSC 400 (non-Applied Science students)
Step #1 - Submit a resume and cover letter to the instructor, David Mody (david.mody@chee.queensu.ca) anytime after May 30th. Until the project list has been properly populated, the instructor will email you confirmation that you have been added to the waiting list. In early September, when the project list is known, the instructor will email you (and copy Liann Joanette) if you can register for the course. Therefore, you should register for an alternate course on QCARD in the event you are not admitted.
If at all possible (i.e. you're in Kingston at some point over the summer), I would like to meet you. Drop me an email and we can setup a time.
Step #2 - To register for APSC 400 you will need to complete an Academic Change Form (ACF).
a) Law Students - Pick up an ACF from Nancy Somers, Macdonald Hall, MAC 512. Nancy will sign the advisor's section of the form.
b) Business Students - Pick up an ACF from Julie Carty, Goodes Hall Room 314. Julie will sign the advisor's section of the form.
c) Science Students - Pick up an ACF from your undergraduate secretary and have them sign the advisor's section of the form.
Step #3 - Obtain the instructor's initials on the ACF (David Mody, 313 Dupuis Hall).
Step #4 - Bring the completed ACF to Liann Joanette (205 Dupuis Hall) and she will obtain the CHEE Undergraduate Program Chair's signature.
Step #5 - Once the Undergraduate Program Chair has signed the ACF, Liann will deliver the form to the Applied Science Faculty Office for processing (Beamish-Munro Hall, Room 200). The course will then be entered into QCARD, but it will take a few days.
