Course Text:

Montgomery, D.C., Runger, G.C., and N.F Hubele, Engineering Statistics, Wiley, New York (2004).
(used in CHEE209, Fall 2006 - present)
This text provides a good overview of probability, regression and experimental design material, in a more readable form. It is less comprehensive than the text below, but is a very good book.

Montgomery, D.C. and Runger, G.C., Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers, 3rd edition, Wiley, New York (2002).
(sometimes used in introductory statistics courses )
This is a more comprehensive version of the Montgomery texts, and provides more detailed background on probability and statistics. It is a very good reference text, balancing depth and readability.

Software:

JMP, Matlab, Excel (we may also use Maple for some analysis as well). JMP is available on the computers in the Engineering Chemistry/Chemical Engineering computing cluster in Dupuis Hall, on the computers in the Teaching Studio of the Integrated Learning Centre, and possibly on other cluster computers on campus as well. In addition, we have a university site license, and it is possible to install on your own computers.

Evaluation:

The first Quiz exam will be held in the lecture slot, from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., on Tuesday October 18, 2011.
