CHEE 436/825: System Identification

JMP Help

We will be using the statistical software package JMP, which is produced by SAS, a major international statistical software company. JMP draws from the extensive statistical base of SAS, but has a nicer graphical interface.

We will be using JMP for time series analysis, and you will see that it provides many exploratory and diagnostic tools. While in the end we will use the system identification toolbox from Matlab to estimate process + disturbance transfer function models, JMP provides a better exploratory capability for time series disturbance models, notably the autocorrelation and partial autocorrelation functions.

JMP also has a capability for estimating neural network models, and we may have a chance to try this out as well.

Finally, JMP provides capability for many different types of statistical analyses, and is an example of a full-fledged statistical program with extensive graphical data analysis capabilities. Try it out for other problems - e.g., nonlinear regression, linear regression, principal components analysis, ...
