Registration Information

The Applied Science Registration Guide is a step-by-step guide to help you with registration.

Where can I find the curriculum for my program?

The curriculum for Chemical Engineering and Engineering Chemistry can be found at: http://chemeng.queensu.ca/undergraduate/Undergrad_Studies.php

Where can I find the list of Complementary Studies Electives and Technical Electives?

For a complete list of Complementary Studies or Technical Electives follow this link:

http://chemeng.queensu.ca/undergraduate/Undergrad_Studies.php

NOTE:  While there are some core courses that are also listed on the Arts & Science site, you should use those listed on the Applied Science page. (NOTE: Access is a privilege – please respect the facilities.)

Prerequisite Waiver Process

The Faculty of Engineering andApplied Science does have a prerequisite/co-requisite waiver process where you can appeal to the instructor of the CORE/TECH course to waive the prerequisite(s).

First, it is important to remember that when it comes to prerequisites they are assigned to a course when courses build on each other and the background from one course(s) is essential for success in following course(s). That having been said, the Faculty of Applied Science does have a prerequisite/corequisite waiver process where you can appeal to the instructor of the CORE/TECH course to waive the prerequisite(s). If you would like to take this route, the steps are ...

STEP #1: Complete the Course Registration Request Form (CRRF) http://engineering.queensu.ca/Current-Students/Registration-Guide.html.

STEP #2: Contact the instructor of the course and ask if she/he is willing to waive the prerequisite(s).

Remember ... prerequisites are assigned to a course when the courses build on each other and the background from one course(s) is essential for success in the following course(s). The instructor usually signs the waiver when the student has demonstrated strength in related areas. When you contact the instructor be sure to include any relevant information to support your cause. Also bring/email a copy of your marks from SOLUS to the instructor as there may be components in other courses you have completed that aren’t prerequisites but could still benefit your cause.

STEP #3: : Email the completed CRRF to the Undergraduate Assistant (liann.joanette@chee.queensu.ca) along with the instructor’s permission (either as a signature on the form, or as an email). The Undergraduate Assistant will then submit it to the Program Chair for his consideration. Should he support your request, he too will sign the waiver form.

STEP #4: Once the CRRF is completed and all parties approve, the Undergraduate Assistant will register you into the course.

Can I take a spring/summer course?

Yes, you can take spring/summer courses. Often complementary studies courses are available at Queen's or at a university near your home during these terms.

NOTE: Courses taken during the spring/summer terms will count towards your degree in terms of AUs only and will not be included in your cumulative average or sessional average.

Spring/summer courses offered at Queen’s University are coordinated by the Continuing and Distance Studies Department through the Faculty of Arts and Science. Please visit their web site for a list of courses available (including both on-campus and correspondence, tuition costs, and how to apply at http://queensu.ca/cds/.

To take a spring/summer course at another university you will need to complete a Substitution Application Form which you can get from the Undergraduate Program Assistant. When you have completed the form, return it to the Undergraduate Program Assistant who will then obtain the Undergraduate Chair's signature. You will be emailed once the Undergraduate Chair has signed so that you can pick up the form and submit it to the Faculty Office (along with a cheque for $60.00 to cover administrative costs).
